Wrekin were drawn to play Taunton, last year's semi-finalists, in the first round of 'the Plate'. Wrekin took early command of the matches winning the first two comfortably and thereby winning the overall match 2/1. With the first two matches shared, the overall result would depend on the last game which became a twitchy affair. All square on the final hole, the opposition almost picked up their ball thinking that they had lost the match after missing a very short putt and knocking it much further from the hole. However the next putt was eventually holed and Blundell's went onto win on the 19th hole winning the tie and they later reached the semi-finals.
