OWA VS THE SCHOOL SUNDAY, 12TH JUNE 2011
OWA VS THE SCHOOL SUNDAY, 12TH JUNE 2011

Following the rain which prevented the 1st X1 match being played last year, the weather was kinder in 2011. It lashed down from first light, so the decision to cancel was far easier!!!!.

My grateful thanks to those 21 souls who answered my call to play, led by Matthew Tilt and Neil Griffiths, and I also acknowledge all the help I got from various people to drum up support in this, my first year, in charge.

I also applaud those players who DID turn up either because they did not get the message or they just wanted to come anyway.  Their company was splendid, and at least they got a good lunch.  In the end, we had a fun afternoon.

Mention also must be made of Andy Beckett whose full recovery after last year’s accident was really good news (he declined the invitation this year – but was ‘up for it’ in 2012) and Barrie Roberts who must be thanked for all his efforts for the cricket over the last few years.  He was a star, and was still willing to help this year.

Next year, the date has yet to be fixed as we have to await for the dreaded exam timetable to be published, but what I want to do over the winter is to establish an OWA Cricket group e.mail list.  I have lots already, BUT IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PLAYING – and do not think I have your email address - please send me your email details to the address below.  I, in turn, will email the date as soon as it is published.  I will then invite players, with the promise that if you reply IMMEDIATELY, then you WILL be selected.  However, please check your diaries carefully when the date comes out.  It is VERY frustrating if people pull out at the last moment.  While there are always emergencies, if a problem arises, please try to get round it.  I will love you for ever!!! If you have not heard anything by the end of March, contact me.

Talking of ‘love’ – this message also goes to Old Wrekiniennes.  Some of you have scored in the past, and many supported the cricketers when you were at Wrekin – so your presence ‘on the day’ is really most welcome.
